Rihanna's Televised Interview Airs, "Even If Chris Never Hit Me Again, Who's To Say [A Young Girl's] Boyfriend Won't?"

Rihanna's first televised interview since her domestic dispute with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown aired today (November 5) and showed the R&B singer speaking on the incident's aftermath.

In the interview, RiRi explained how much of an impact her image has on young women.

"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part," she explains. "Even if Chris never hit me again, who's to say that their boyfriend won't? Who's to say that they won't kill these girls? These are young girls. I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened." "It was a wake-up call for me big time," she adds. "I'll say that to any young girl who's going through domestic violence. Don't react off of love. Ef love. Come out of the situation and look at it [in the] third person and for what it really is and then make your decision. Because love is so blind." (E! Online)

Rihanna also detailed how difficult it was to cut her ties with Brown.

The singer, 21, also hinted that it may have taken "eight or nine attempts" before she could finally leave the relationship. "It's pretty easy to go back," she says, affirming Sawyer's statement that the average woman makes seven attempts to leave an abusive partner. "You start lying to yourself. The physical wounds go away. You want this thing to go away. This is a memory you don't want to ever have again." (People)

In addition to the incident, the singer shared her reaction to it becoming publicized last February.

Rihanna said she came to understand that her initial reaction was typical of many victims of domestic violence. But the glare of the media spotlight made it even more traumatic. "There are a lot of women who experienced what I did but not in the public, so it made it really difficult," she said. "I felt like, 'Oh my God, here goes my little bit of privacy, just [having] exposed something that nobody wants anybody to know. Here I am, the whole world knowing.'" (Los Angeles Times)

Aside from her interview, Rihanna was recently announced to join Jay-Z and Eminem at this year's American Music Awards.

Rihanna is officially on-board to perform at the 37th Annual American Music Awards later this month. Rihanna joins a continuously growing list of performers slated to take the stage at the November 22 ceremony. She joins Jay-Z, Eminem, Adam Lambert, and Alicia Keys. The 37th Annual American Music Awards air November 22 on ABC at 9pm ET. (Singersroom)
