Chris Brown reads to children in school

Chris Brown is to reportedly read to children at a US school for their annual 'Family Read Night'.

The 'Run It' singer – who was found guilty of assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna last year – has been invited to read to students at the Sisulu-Walker Charter School in New York for the annual state-wide event held on November 18.

Despite being on probation for the domestic violence conviction, for which he was sentenced to 80 hours of community labour and domestic violence counselling, the 20-year-old star will participate at the evening which is geared to encourage students to read.

Principal Dawn Cejas said: "I extended an invitation to all celebrities and politicians, and we had an acceptance by him."

Olubunmi Sonubi, a mother of a pupil at the school, revealed she was prepared to give the R'n'B star a "second chance".

She told the New York Daily News newspaper: "He can come even though he was arrested. He's coming to read to the children. He apologised on TV. Sometimes in real life we make mistakes."

Chris – who has since apologised for the attack on Rihanna which left her battered and bruised – has showed remorse for his actions and is making progress with his rehabilitation.

At a hearing held at Los Angeles Superior Court in February, Judge Patricia Schnegg said: "You're doing really, really well. I think you've made a lot of progress in the last month."
